hmm, we also don't "need" public transport and television, right? Or mp3 players.

I like the fact that i can have an organizer, mp3 player/fm radio, digital camera and phone in such a small package, to carry with me everywhere i go. I can even play some games on it when i want to. i hardly understand why these devices are still called mobile phones really.. To me it's fantastic to have all of that fitting in my shirt pocket...

ah, but then you use it for one purpose only indeed. I bet you wouldn't mind if it had an organizer with bt sync on it tho ;-).

I remember that about 4 years ago i bought this harddisk mp3 player. It was huge and could only play music files. Today we can fit the contents of a small harddrive on a microscopic memorycard, and have a single device perform way more tasks. Off course the big challenge is to keep it all intuitive. Will the devices' interface permit the user to have a satisfactory experience when using it as an mp3 player or digital camera?

For me, Sony Ericsson really got it right for the most part, with the exception of the stupid proprietary connector.. i need an adapter to connect my earplugs to it for instance...

I am old fashioned. 10 years ago I used my cellphone for sending text messages and talking to people when I rang them or they rang me and using the alarm. Today, that's all I use my cellphone for with one small addition. I have custom polyphonic ringtones. I got a mp3 player for all my portable video and music needs. I got a computer for all my internet and game needs. I got a Wii cus it pwns face. To me those are seperate, and will be for a very long time. Why? Because I like it that way

I have my camera to make pictures, my mp3 player to listen to music, my laptop to use internet/games, and that is all I need. I do not need any add-ons on my phone (not even those poliphonic thing-a-ma-jings) and this will stay as it is.

...untill you discover how much more convenient it CAN be. But it's natural for people to be negative towards anything that would change their daily habits. Btw, gaming on a mobile phone will always be sup-par but it's still fun to kill some time with it when you only got your mobile at hand.

I honestly don't care about ringtones, music ringtones are an harassment. i try to keep em as non-obtrusive as possible, while still being possible to hear.

try a sony ericsson phone some day.. it beats my dedicated mp3 player (which was supposed to be rather good) by both ease of use and sound quality without a dozen of useless settings (megabass, effects, bla). For me it's very usefull thingy. Mostly for calling someone and smss.

To add-ons:
I think that cellphone with mp3, radio, camera and w/e is usefull. You just can't always have backpack with camera, alarm clock, mp3 player...And if you want to take a pic of something you have always your "camera" there. Same with mp3 player and so on.
But if you really want to take a good pic or listen music on higher level cellphone becomes not that much usefull anymore.

Thats the reason why I have "good" cellphone and great camera and mp3 player.

Motorola U9 Purple

I loved this phone when I got it, now I simply hate it. The size of it is handy and so on. The first impression was like WOW! It can memorize sentences (predicts what your next word you're going to insert). Well, that was due to that it hadn't learned enough words so it was simple to do that in the beginning. After a while it forgets words and you have to rewrite them. What is more annoying is that Nokia phones support that you can actually write the word and then it remembers it. But not with this ****ing phone. Let's take example of spelling "Tietokone" (Computer in Finnish) you have to type it in like this: Tie-t-ok-o-ne. Just because it's only able to produce words what have 'the last' letter to make the word go further. It can make multiple words out of tie, but it doesn't know how to continue the word by adding the t into it.

The screen on the top is quite handy. You can read your messages trough it. Comes handy in school if the teacher is strict with phones.

But now the real reasons why I hate it:
It got a bit wet once, the screen was blinking like hell and went completely black. After 2 hours the screen had flipped 180 degrees vertically. So annoying to write words with "un" without checking did you spell it correctly by flipping the phone over. Also when it comes to write those SMS... Freaking annoying to spell every ****ing word in every ****ing message. PLUS the pad doesn't always react what you pressed, may overreact by hitting 5 p's instead of one and the worst of them all: During writing the message it may just simply quit writing it even that your fingers are far from the cancel button. So ****ing annoying if you're going for the 700th mark and then it quits and doesn't even save your hard work. Makes me throw the phone to wall, too bad that I can't currently afford a new one.

Usually GF only get's angry because I didn't respond to her message, just because I got upset to my phone. I don't know was it due to operator or the phone itself that it didn't work in Estonia.

I have a Nokia 5800. I love this phone. Activating the screen is very comfortable. Build and sound quality are way over the current cell phone level. One of the few complaints is that the touch screen is not a capacitive touch screen. But I suppose that is up to personal preference. Chinese like to use the stylus -.-

It is much darker on the pictures. There was a pink one but no ****ing way I'd buy that one! The edges only give that faggish glow when light hits it. I got rants when I was using 3310 that it's too old model and doesn't have capacity to hold messages (I get too much of them anyways) and now I hear compliments because my phone doesn't work. First time I hear those straightish things tho :p.

Dark purple, silverish gray or neon green with black background are my favorite colours. Black was too common, pink is for fags / girls, red... Ugh, purple seemed the most intresting PLUS I wanted to have a phone without antenna and there were lots of similar models than this but they had antenna. Shell type was what I wanted anyway.

definetly get there dare, ive never had a razr but i do have the dare and its pretty sweet. IMO the touch screen is very good considering its not an iphone. and i have dropped it alot and it hasent proken yet.

so far its been pretty reliable. oh and i have had it for a couple of months and the battery life is still good

It's like a mini PC with all the applications and built in camera and GPS and WiFi. Recently I installed Python and some scripts so I toyed a bit with built in accelerometer. Amazing what you can do with phones already. Not to mention Bluetooth hacking. Can't wait when Nokia will finally port Linux to their devices as an optional feature besides Symbian. If I would be buying a phone right now, I would probably choose Nokia once again or Android (or Omnia). But never iPhone, besides the touch-screen, it is a piece of shit and it is good only for "UUu whooaah you have iPhone zomgz!!!".

The N900 by nokia is their first phone to use linux/maemo as the OS, and it's coming out in about a week. It's like the dreamdevice for me, but I'm a bit anxious as if to jump on to a first-ever release (they did some stuff wrong and delayed release from october -> now) or to wait for 2nd gen which is coming fall 2010..
Also there's no official word as to if maemo 6 will be ported for the n900 or if they will drop support when it comes..

Yeah should have gotten the Dare ha. I've had the razr2 for umm a little over a year and yeah well.. it gets old really fast. It won't EVER break, but it's just not enough for me I guess. Only thing I like about it anymore is it sends messages pretty fast. Instead of the lame "sending..." for a few seconds, it's just like 1 second. You'll like it for a while though.

Sorry, Sony is not from Sweden, which makes Sony Ericson only half rox. Besides, Sony Ericsson has their main global management established in England. Though, it is being led by Swedish people.

For a very long time I had a Nokia 3310. It was the best one I ever had, you could throw it to the wall and it didnt break. The battery just didn't last very long towards the end.

Then I had a Siemens model for quite long too, I think it was A55. It was also pretty good.

In the summer I finally bought a somewhat newer one, which is Nokia 5310. Looks like this:

The main reason I bought that one was to have something to listen to music with in the army. The music player isn't great but it works for me. And it is quite cheap and small and handy.

Too bad they don't seem to make cheap phones with a music player but without a camera and all the other fancy and useless features. I would buy one like that immediately. It could even have a monochrome screen, wouldn't matter to me.

but all of those are damn good phones! Worth every penny! Even tho, I didn't even pay much for any of them. Paid full price only for Nokia 5800, lol. Got most of them so cheap so had to buy them (20-80e..)

I dislike touchscreens.... and Nokias

but there just wasn't any normal sony ericssons for okay price out when I got my phone.

I'm really frustrated by Nokia's latest business decisions, but the fact is that they still make good phones (though symbian sucks). If they make a new device with MeeGo/Maemo OS, dual core processor and hardware keyboard, I'll still buy it. N900 is a kickass phone and I can't imagine using anything else! I'f I could just have it with upgraded hardware I'd be sold.

Basically, as long as they stick to MeeGo, I'll stick to them. Which might not be very long though ;O
