majority of pople who have cell phones dont need them

it is a vanity item so i dont support it.

And Ocky, as long as you haven't got a cellphone you won't need one, but when u buy one you can't survive without it

And they are kinda usefull sometimes

hmm, we also don't "need" public transport and television, right? Or mp3 players.

I like the fact that i can have an organizer, mp3 player/fm radio, digital camera and phone in such a small package, to carry with me everywhere i go. I can even play some games on it when i want to. i hardly understand why these devices are still called mobile phones really.. To me it's fantastic to have all of that fitting in my shirt pocket...

btw, if you want all of the above (great music quality, decent camera and good battery life), this might fit:

you have the device because it is a fun useful tool.
if i were to have a cell phone ever (if i were to get a job or something) i would need something small, tough, with minimal extras (i would just want a phone).

ah, but then you use it for one purpose only indeed. I bet you wouldn't mind if it had an organizer with bt sync on it tho ;-).

I remember that about 4 years ago i bought this harddisk mp3 player. It was huge and could only play music files. Today we can fit the contents of a small harddrive on a microscopic memorycard, and have a single device perform way more tasks. Off course the big challenge is to keep it all intuitive. Will the devices' interface permit the user to have a satisfactory experience when using it as an mp3 player or digital camera?

For me, Sony Ericsson really got it right for the most part, with the exception of the stupid proprietary connector.. i need an adapter to connect my earplugs to it for instance...

I am old fashioned. 10 years ago I used my cellphone for sending text messages and talking to people when I rang them or they rang me and using the alarm. Today, that's all I use my cellphone for with one small addition. I have custom polyphonic ringtones. I got a mp3 player for all my portable video and music needs. I got a computer for all my internet and game needs. I got a Wii cus it pwns face. To me those are seperate, and will be for a very long time. Why? Because I like it that way

i think you never used a phone that had an acceptable mp3 player on board... off course having multiple devices is cool in it's own way as well

Same here, I used, am using and will use my phone to make phone calls and send smss. I have my camera to make pictures, my mp3 player to listen to music, my laptop to use internet/games, and that is all I need. I do not need any add-ons on my phone (not even those poliphonic thing-a-ma-jings) and this will stay as it is.

Maybe the cell phone can also be used as a mp3, but the real mp3 is much better.
The same to all the other funcions it has, exepct phoning and writing sms

...untill you discover how much more convenient it CAN be. But it's natural for people to be negative towards anything that would change their daily habits. Btw, gaming on a mobile phone will always be sup-par but it's still fun to kill some time with it when you only got your mobile at hand.

I honestly don't care about ringtones, music ringtones are an harassment. i try to keep em as non-obtrusive as possible, while still being possible to hear.

try a sony ericsson phone some day.. it beats my dedicated mp3 player (which was supposed to be rather good) by both ease of use and sound quality without a dozen of useless settings (megabass, effects, bla). Oh, don't forgot to exchange the stock headphones with decent ones (jvc victor in-ears for instance).

For me it's very usefull thingy. Mostly for calling someone and smss.

To add-ons:
I think that cellphone with mp3, radio, camera and w/e is usefull. You just can't always have backpack with camera, alarm clock, mp3 player...And if you want to take a pic of something you have always your "camera" there. Same with mp3 player and so on.
But if you really want to take a good pic or listen music on higher level cellphone becomes not that much usefull anymore.

Thats the reason why I have "good" cellphone and great camera and mp3 player.

6 others are some random models of Nokia(Not very new)
