OpenLieroX : Multiplayer on an ad hoc OSX network
« on: October 19, 2016, 11:53:48 pm »
I use OLX 0.58 rc3 on OSX 10.9. I'm always on a shared internet network where hosting games is impossible. Does anyone know if it is possible to create an ad-hoc network on OSX (clicking on the wifi sign > create network) and use it to play with other OSX machines?

Here's what I tried :
    - I create an ad hoc network
    - My friend, who also has OSX with OLX, connects to this network
    - I host an OLX game (I tried ticking and unticking the "register server" checkbox)
But when my friend looks at available servers (Internet or LAN) in OLX, my server does not appear. I'm having a hard time understanding where the problem comes from...

So thanks in advance for your help!

I have almost no experience on ad-hoc networking but playing OLX in one should be completely possible.

I think that the OLX client doesn't find the server (host) in the ad-hoc network for some reason. Find out the host IP address (I don't know how to do that on Mac) and then connect manually: in the Internet or Favourites tab in OLX, click "add" and then type in the IP address.

Also, make sure that firewall is not blocking OLX traffic.
