I've kept my mouth shut up until now at work and I'm kind of under investigation. I want some others opinions about my situation.

It all started on my promotion to seafood almost 2 years ago. My manager told me that I would be prompted to assisstant management to help run the department. I did my work and was not promoted. So I stepped up and did more work and still nothing. Promising for a promotion and got dick all. All I got was blamed for what other people did, and tried to defend myself but didn't work. My co-workers would get me in trouble and tell my boss that I did stuff they did.

Currently in the last couple months my boss has shown me stuff I'm not allowed to see telling me if it gets out I can lose my job. I wanted to know why she showed me. But she never did anything about it. After leaving for a vacation for 2 weeks she told me that I was to run the department and that she had everything ordered for me. All was done and everything was up and running. So I believed her she went on vac and about half way through there was a lobster sale for fathers day. Really aggresive. She didn't have any ordered. Nothing. So I had to go behind the women and fix it. Fixing all her problems for a week, including my only 2 co-workers not coming into work leaving me to do everything by myself for days.

She came back and basically gave me a small thank you and a large **** you all in one sentance and left me to work. I got pissed off, and after the promise of management and everything, that kinda frustrated me too. Now this is going to upper management.

Ontop of that someone started picking on my wife there for quitting and leaving everyone else to do her job because she could not work due to doctors orders. She was given a doctors note to get out of her department and they would not accomdate her. She had to leave the job. They picked on her on facebook and finally I said something relating too "If that store was not run by fine persons she would have been accomdated". Which is pulling me into more trouble.

I understand that saying something like that is rude, but do I not have the right to be pissed off? They would not even try to help my wife who has been with there company for 3 years, and I have given nothing but hard work and dedication to my department, even working off hours for my boss.

I'm thinking of calling human resources, but I odn't know if its worth it. I'm trying to find a new job at the moment but its not currently going to well.

What do you guys think?

Hey Asrack,

I am not entirelly sure if it helps anything, but a piece of advice would be to get used to such things at work. It happens everywhere, it's only matter of variables and scale. I've experienced similar issues - being fair, doing your best, trying to aim higher - all that will bring you down instead. In the most of companies at least, these that are run by morons, who can't appreciate young quicklearners that can do much more with a little better motivation (hard to figure what motivates the worker best eh?).

In your case, I think I would react in the same way. You were too polite anyway.
There is no point to fight with windmills, I believe, so it might be best for you to save the experience regarding human interactions and look for a new job more seriously. Usually it takes a few months to realize what kind of working place you are in.

Relations with coworkers matter the most in my opinion, even if the sallary might be not the best. I would always choose to stay with a good company over nice money and environment full of dickheads. In your case, you seem to have bad air at your working place and it might be hard to restore it at this point.

And yeah well, believe it or not, I'm frustrated over wrong decisions and wrongdoing everyday at my work. People do tons of mistakes and get no punishment. I need to think and do job instead of 2-3 other people, while they do their nails and read newspapers. Amongst other designers my work is also of the highest quality, but I earn same money as they do. I'm supposed to be a leader, but there is no bonus money for that, only even more responsability. So yeah, life is not really fair. Sometimes you just have luck, other time you don't.

Anyway, good luck. But if you are alone facing a crowd, you are probably in a hopeless position. Especially when boss is an asshole who can't appreciate your efforts. It really leads to one sad conclusion.

I know it happens everywhere. I'm mostly looking to see if I should take it further then what I have. Like attempt to get the managers in trouble. I am looking for another job currently to as well. as soon as I can get out, I'm out trust me.

I worked for a short time at chain restaurant. I was hired on the pretense of being a server. So for about 3 months after my interview and orientation did I do shit all. They didn't schedule me but was an employee. I was in University too so I had something to keep me busy but every now and then I'd contact the manager explaining I wanted to work.  Eventually he finally scheduled mie. So I come in on the day he tells me, turns out I am not scheduled. Pull my phone and sure enough the day is right.. Next thing I know I am put on dishes. I try to be polite and do them. For the next 4 weeks I am on dishes. I tell myself any day now he'll take me off and put me where I belong. Anyways it doesn't happen and then April comes along and it's time for my final exams. So I try to book off 2 weeks for my University finals. My manager won't let me, he needs me he says. I am against it at first and decide to take a night to think about it. The next day I go in and quit. I try to be polite about it because the company owed me money, they hadn't paid me at all while I worked there. They gave me checks with my name spelled wrong lol... So after quitting I am sending this guy emails saying if I don't get my money I will go to the labor board. Finally he sends me the money with 20 dollars missing because I "quit" and they take money off for not giving much notice  .

This is where it gets interesting, I send a letter to the human resources department explaining my case, they tell me they'll look into it. They never do or contact me. I feel like they try to protect mangers a lot.

Funny thing was this guy would come drunk to work all the time during his off time and cause havoc.


My best advice is to talk to your manager, explain why you are valuable and you are mad because of broken promises. If he or she doesn't care simply Quit and find a job that will respect you. If you are worth as much as it seems then the business will crumble and the person who let you go will be at fault. If they make fun of you on facebook, who gives a ****. I mean they suffer not you. For myself I've started an online business doing professional writing while I go to university. I hate the environment in lower entry jobs, lots of idiots.

However in reply, I really wish I could quit that job trust me. But with a baby on the way and no other jobs(trust me I've been looking.) I have to stay. :/ I tried your advice things just keep getting worse. Couple times actually.

That sounds awful. If you feel you have really been stepped on then you could have a possible case for discrimination in the workplace. If you can put forward a strong case then you may have had a violation against a human rights act.

The thing is if you wished to pursue this case it would not let you keep your job, most likely you would lose your job however receive a settlement if you can successfuly argue your case (naturally with a solictior).

I don't know what country your from but maybe look around for any agency that could represent you. Unfortunately what happens to you does happen quite often but if you want to act on it then you would need to have a strong case in your favour that you have been seriously mistreated. Otherwise I guess either take it on the chin or start looking for a new job. If they have been harassing your wife on Facebook or in other ways then you may also be able to press for a civil suit. All this is a bit expensive but once again with a strong case you could come out with a big settlement depending on the extent of the violations and the size of the company you work for as well as the laws in your country.

Hmm, tough situation. Going back to your original post you talk about being shared things that others were not told. Were these things that could cause problem if found out upon by others? You could try threatening to tell the labour board on her. Canada is pretty strict on safe and fair labour. Of course I think this route can be unethical but if you have to (for the sake of your well being and child) then do so.
 

Have you thought about relocating out of where you currently live to a city that provides better jobs? I'm not sure how much you like to do physical work but Alberta has a lot of oil sand worker jobs open. Low sales taxes (5%) and I hear it's not so bad. Some other pretty good perks included too. It might be an option. Just an idea though.

Been thinking about it after the baby is born. Mostly do to family and stuff. I thought family should see baby first and help with the first couple months cause this is our first. Then we have help and not doing it totally on our own. Not that I'm afraid but we don't know the first thing about new born babies. lol.

I was planning on it, a co-worker of mine called HR today and found out my manager is under the spot light right now, shes in so much shit things might pick up. I am looking to find a job at Leons currently though.

As for calling HR, great news, hopefully things start going your way there. As for Leons sounds like a nice place to work and I would imagine that discounts would be a nice incentive

Little update:

So I know most of you probably don't care but I thought I would continue to update, this time the ball is in my park. They suspended me today with no proof over anything I did. I did something wrong, but they have no proof of what I did. A.K.A no reason to suspend me. So I can use this against them as a civil rights problem.

I knew waiting was a good idea, while I'm off thinking, they are there trying to frame me for something that I didn't do. Hehehe!
