A lot of online games do automatic update to their software. So corrections of them are applied often and generally are hidden from user.

Why do not implement that in OLX? So you can solve the problem of user saying "I'll use only 0.56." and "I'll use only 0.58".

Also:

1. All players must use the updated game to play (if it is outdated, it will automatically update). So it will force all people to use the last version to play.

2. Corrections must be applied quickly, without the need of waiting a new great release. It would correct little bugs. If others appeared with corrections, it will quickly killed with another one.

3. There, it would have some gameplay modes, as in another online games. So people choose how to play. If there aren't players enough to host their kind of game, they have to play the other mode or to wait.
3.1. Oldschool / 0.56: modes only for riffles/mortars/classic with old physics
3.2. New age: to play with 0.58/0.59 modes (including Gusanos dynamic levels) and new features to be developed in future

That's something Google or Mozilla can afford. We currently do not have resources to build such a system. You are welcome to contribute though :)

Well, waiting for me is the slowest way, since I could not compile code until now nor have time enough to spend in such kind of work... You have already the knife and the cheese on your hands :)

Um yeah going along with your metaphore - you just asked him to do another five hundreds of thusands cheese sandwiches.

It's the easiest way to say "No no, you can do it better than me, I would have to learn all of it from scratches". Yeah well, they did have to start from zero as well :)

Not to mention - the idea with forced updates was a bad one to begin with. Many of us didn't want such thing, because not all of the updates were stable enough, and we've got enough of "cool new features".
Yes, it's Raziel.

The problem is that users don't know what are their needs. If new features are better, none is claiming for the old version, and if two different versions don't exist none is claiming to use one instead of another, although following my way is creating a third version... And how can you say "not all of the updates were stable enough"? Do you have numbers to argue?

I'm suggesting an way to think about. Even I can program, I'm allowed to say my user opinion. Also I'm not saying that "you can do better than me" but "you can do faster than me". Everyone can do that since it is open source - if you cannot program, learn it before it (everyone can learn it too).

Actually I'd still rollback to LX56 if it would had any players or at least servers didn't had minimum LX version to join so high.

This thread is going towards the same discussion that was held so many times on these boards.

Jason, to try and head back a few posts, it seems you have some time on your hands and would like to invest some of it into this game of (y)ours. I'm sure I can speak for all of us when I say we're very happy to hear this!

The way I see it, you have 2 basic options to do it:
If you just want to work on your code and improve your own game without having to go through the hassle of OLX, go ahead and do it! We all owe you forever for making this game in the first place anyway, so yeah, when you're finished, we'll check it out.
However, if you're interested in doing something for this community, something that will really make the game we play better and more appealing for newcomers, it would probably be best to find a way in which you can bundle your forces with the OLX team. Be it simply by joining them, by somehow implementing your improvements so far into OLX or in any other way. What this game needs is not having 2 separate games again, each with their pro's and con's, but one game that goes forward and becomes something better. OLX has come a very long way since LX, and it would be a damn shame to either throw it all away or have to do it all again.

I guess it would be kinda hard for Jason to work by someone else's vision about the game. From what I understood he wants to keep it simple 2D game and work with his own code, which is not what he can do with OLX.

One good thing community kinda needs really is clanbase. :)

I kinda have a different vision/direction in mind than OLX.

Which is part of the reason why i would rebrand it as LieroX 2. Just so it doesn't quite have the same association with any particular version.

That might work, or it could be an utter failure. I hope not the latter :)

I don't know. I don't want to start promising things too early.
I'm doing a bit of contract work on the side at the moment, so i havn't really had a chance to get back into it.

Just saying...

Most of the active people who played during time before OLX would happily go back to 0.56 times if it was possible. I think, and many others think that OLX has added way too many useless and shitty options while introducing new bugs and things like the new spawn system which is ****ing stupid and makes people think: "did developers test this game for even 1 minute."

There is only few features I like which 0.56b didnt have, and here they are:
- Want to join message
- Joining server even when it is in game
- Weapon ban lists can be saved
- Suicide command

Cant think about any other feature I NEED or think that are usefull or needed, ofc there are minor things like teamchat which can be added since they dont change gameplay.

We've all heard "it was better before ..." dozens of times. Will all the users magically come back if we all decide to start playing 0.56b? no, for me to start playing again olx would have to get some fat updates with new content, and ladders and clan activity would have to go up. There are simply better games out there, and I bet i'm not alone.
I don't do unintentionall mistakes.
