Too many options

This is a common complaint, and to some extent I agree. But I think that for .59 a small but very significan change could be made, to have some use for those. I think that most of the options to how the OLX engine should behave could be shifted to the mods. To have things like game speed, weapons hitting oneself, friendly fire, aim speed, aim friction, air jump, worm friciton, worm speed and whichever other I forgot be mod specific. The gravity and how the rope behaves is already in the mod, so moving those over there would keep in that spirit.

Sure though, there's not much (if any) mod creation anymore, and not many people play the game, but an old fart can hope, can't he?

Good thinking, Gaston! One of the main problems that has pissed me off in lierox is that the aim speed is pretty low. And all the other points will surely improve the quality aswell.

This idea is not new. Esp. this idea was already discussed earlier. And it is already like that. It is only that the user can also still override these settings. It goes like this:

1. There are default values for each setting/property. These are the initial settings.
2. There are the mod settings. LX56 mods only specify a small subset (like gravity) but in theory (and the Gusanos mod format supports this) you can set any setting. These will overwrite the values.
3. There are the game settings presets (I think only 0.59 - there you can have LX56 physics, fixed physics, and some other presets). These again can overwrite any possible setting.
4. There are the user settings which again can override anything.

We have mostly agreed that this is a good general approach. The details are more problematic. Esp. the discussion often went back and forth wether it makes sense to hide some settings away from the user (point (4)) or at least to provide some GUI for the basic settings and make the other ones only accessible via console or via some full-settings-list GUI or so. I think this make sense. Some initial work already went into this direction and we tried to classify settings into basic and advanced. The settings dialog shows the basic settings and you can switch there to list more advanced levels. This is still a bit too simple and non-userfriendly, though.
