Musicians!

Hey! dunno if a thread like this has already made, but im too lazy to look for it.

I just wanted to ask that do you play any instrument(s)/are you played any instrument(s) before. If you do, which instrument, and what kind of music you play with it? Blues, jazz, rock, etc.? What songs you can play? And how long you have played it.

Personally i play electric guitar, been playing for about 2 years now. Started in the 7th grade when i picked up a guitar at our music class in school and just TRIED TO play it :D

Mostly i play heavy(all kinds of rock and metal, like from kansas to megadeth) and blues.

Few songs that i can play(from the intro/start to the outro/end):

- Van Halen - Panama
- Iron Maiden - The Trooper
- Guns n Roses - Sweet child o mine
- Guns n Roses - Nightrain

And then the hardest song i can play(egoboost 8))
- Megadeth - Tornado of Souls

Im really interested about music and what other ppl play and so on. Please reply!

EDIT: forgot to mention that i played drums too from 2th to 7th grade, but got bored and quit ;D
EDIT x2: My guitar is a Gibson Les Paul, pretty old, made when there weren't euros yet, but its still like a new! :D

I've played guitar, mainly electric, for 5-6 years, and bass for 2-3. And some ukulele for fun sometimes.

About songs I don't know, I've never been too interested in learning a whole song unless it was exceptionally good. I've mainly tried to learn interesting licks and riffs from wherever I hear them. But I guess I could almost claim that I could play the entire discography of Iron Maiden on the guitar, except for maybe some solos but I could work out approximations with some effort. On the bass I can technically play most stuff that only requires four strings and two fingers (index and middle) and isn't ridiculously fast. My feel for the bass is very bad though, and my fingertips are still way too soft as I don't play it very often.

Generally what I play is blues- and rock-based stuff with good guitar sounds, which in my mind means mainly between the years 1965-90. I like jazz too but my understanding of music and life in general is not on a sufficient level to play jazz myself. I don't play pop, any form of so-called alternative whatever, or the extreme, ridiculously downtuned forms of metal. And on principle I wouldn't admit I like punk, but I do. Not a lot though, and the good guitar sound principle applies here as well.

The hardest thing I can play is probably Grant Green's version of Hurt So Bad, up to the end of the first solo. It's just about as jazzy as I can play and it's still not very jazzy at all, but it's quite funky and nice and it took my ears and fingers a long time to learn. And I've made an almost complete transcription of Pachelbel's Chaconne in F minor which is very nice*. (*the piece, not my transcription)

And now that I came to think of it, I guess I should be able to play my own songs. Our band has something like 15-20 songs, and I have maybe 10-15 songs of my own which the band refuses to play. Mine are better of course, but probably too difficult for the others, hohoho. :P

I have a guitar but can't play for s***. I've tried to learn, but I couldn't go to somesort of a course for it, since kendo was more important to me then.

Cool, you should post a cover to lxa :) ive been planning to play a cover to the tape, but i dont have proper equipment yet to make nice quality cover.

It's nice to hear that you are in a band. I'm tried to form a band myself, but very very few gives a shit about music around here, and those who do mostly are already in a band, with a guitarist already in it.. maybe after high school, because im heading to a conservatory after it, there will be some band stuff for sure :D

You can easily learn to play guitar at home. Thats what i did at the start, and i really learned to play pretty decently. Just go watch some videos at sites like youtube and so on, there are many videos that help you practise. Just start off slow and easy, dont try anything which seems to be too hard, and have fun when you play, you will learn :D

I play guitar, piano and some ukulele, but I'm primarely a singer. I've played in a band for seven years, but now I'm also focusing on a solo album, because I suddenly recieved public funding to record it (The norwegian government is really nice in that way =). I have studied music cognition, theory and history in my early days, and in addition taken lessons in both vocals and guitar, so I think my musical understanding has become rather good over the years.

These days "The Hunter" by Mastodon is the album that rotates the most on my turntable, but I appreciate most subgenres of rock and roll, metal and blues. I won't bother to list all the bands and artists that has influenced me now, cause that would end up as a long thesis.

Btw, nice thread. Hoping to contribute to keep it alive for awhile =).

Watch instructional videos on YouTube and try to play along. That's basically the same as listening to a record and playing along by ear, but there are so many great videos around where you can also see how the things are played. Like there:

I play the electric guitar not as well as most of you probably. I haven't taken a single lesson but playing all by myself though.
I also own a bass that I play from times to times.

I find myself playing video game tablatures the most.

I have an interest in drumming, but I don't seem to get the beats right at all. It's too much for me to handle at the same time I guess. Besides, the set is a bit expensive and takes up much space.

Thank you. I don't really know from where. In lack of things to work with I had to build an idea with the stuff I had laying around in the houses basement where I lived atm.
Ended up with a television trying to sleep.

I can't play the guitar
I can't play the piano
I can't play a violin, sax or any other instrument.

I get paid for making electronic music and for mastering, mixing and tracking bands nowdays.
Also deal with a little post production and sound design for fun.
Do i count?

Used to play the drums pretty well, but don't really have access to a drumkit anymore, so that's pretty much fading away.

I do play some classic guitar as well as a few modern songs and a few self-composed ones.

Mostly though, I play the piano, but there's so immensly much I don't know about it, that I can't call myself skilled in playing it really. It's a great and expressive instrument though.

Yeah, ive been planning to start playing piano too in the future :) well, synthesizer in fact :P
You know Toto? There's some songs for you what you should learn with piano! And they arent too hard either.

I'm playing some instruments aswell :) guitarr, bass, basic drumrythms and piano
Me and Teddy were in the same musicoriented class in school and we had damn much fun playing music and liero for 3 years in school ^^

now i've been in germany for tree years, and in that time i've been the bassplayer in two different bands :) we really had some cool gigs in big towns in switzerland like Basel, Zürich or Arau. We've also been playing together with pretty big local bands like paramount greyhound (myspace.com/paramountgreyhound).
