So, if the tournament is based only on invitations, which seem to be arbitrary at best, although exhibiting a certain clan bias, what's the point of putting this thread in the general Events & Contests section? Why not host it on your own board? For this is not what the title suggests at all, this is a joke and a bad one at that.

Please note I mentioned 'less self-indulgent'. For instance, I don't feel any need to put up a 'contest' in which I would welcome only invitees, most of whom just happen to be in the same clan as myself.

Sak, stop acting like You have OCD. Or if You aren't acting, get some behavioral or cognitive behavioral therapy and/or medications(AKA go see a psychologist).
Or if You just have a problem with self-control when You are anonymous, then the sentence "don't give a f*ck" should be a good advice to You.

I'm not acting and there's nothing wrong with my mind that I would trust for a psychologist to fix.

I don't have such a problem, thank you very much.

This is no reason to continue with them. Tradition in itself is not a justification, it can be that the tradition is bad which in this case is apparent.

First, I'm not even the least interested in joining this tournament, never been interested in joining one, never will be, so the reason I'm posting here is not in my own interest.

I can understand that you, in the interest of making this tournament succesful, would select the most active players and players on who you can rely based on your past experience with those disappearing from or dropping out of the tournament for some reason.

What I don't understand is that in such a small community, some manage to build their own gold tower for no one to enter, while on the other hand they are whining about the fact that their beloved game is having one foot in the grave.

The point that Sakmongkol is trying to make is therefor more than valid.
Again, I acknowledge that with invitation, the risk of the tournament becoming a flop is reduced.
In a public setting however, I too disapprove the selection based on "superiority", or atleast "your (plural) view of superiority". If this is not the case, it may be wise to publish the selection or exclusion criteria. Not doing so obviously is for many here like getting a kick in the shins and I understand where their feeling of not being treated just comes from.

oh, it was invitational, sorry :)  have fun :)

He's even excusing himself for Christ's sake...

With all respect, but I don't estimate the ones making such remarks very high.

SorZ may probably explain more, but what I know, he asked a few experienced, players who have been on the top about 4-5 years on LX - who still are active - to choose eight best classic players atm.

This has nothing to do with any ivory tower of us oldies, I guess the idea is just to have a tournament between a high quality players.

Of course it's a matter of question, but...

I agree with Odin there.

Only thing that came up to my mind is,  SoRz decided to create a tournament where people are most likely going to have fun, (so he invited all those who can compete together without acting weird while the tournament lasts).

I'm just surprised that no Emp guys are in(could mention some other currently active clans), when they are really gaining experience in classic as well these days and I'm sure they would play their rounds without excuses as well.

I think it would be wise to let in some of the applicants here, who whish to compete with the "bests". :)

Tournaments can be invitation only I suppose, you see it a lot in amateur level sports but no one remembers those.

However, based off basic university statistics... The sample is to small, the sample was picked on some sort of bias and not random.  Basically the title of this tournament is not very factual and you can't take the winner really serious as being the best at anything except maybe the group of players playing  :D

And you don't see any contradiction here do you?

I would not object to this if the contest was renamed "King of Classic 2011 in SorZ's opinion", or in the opinion of whoever were the 'few experienced' players who decided the invitees.

I suggest that 8 players can join the tournament and those 8 play against someone who has been invited. But that would require 8 players who actually try to play this tournament 'till the end and not just registed and forget all about it.

I think that would be fair, yes?

I believe SorZ asked enough much players to vote. Of course it's everyone's subjective vote, but a fact is that there lives a truth too. Especially when you watch the players list of the tournament, liked you it or not. That's why I don't see a problem to name this tournament as "King of Classic 2011".

But earlier King of Classic tournaments have contained more players (?) so also I think that Lodur's suggestion would be fair.

It's not wrong to give constructive feedback so you can't, as a host of this tournament, answer to people like that. I would also like to see the answer to this from Sorz.:

Well, like it was already mentioned; it's kinda weird to invite only some of the players to a tournament and claim that the winner is the King of Classic, when everybody didn't even have a chance to participate. Sure those players who were invited are some of the best classic-players around and can be trusted to play the tournament to the end, but I think there's some players who could give a good challenge too. I personally don't really mind about all of this, but still wanted to share my opinion for some reason.

What I don't understand is that in such a small community, some manage to build their own gold tower for no one to enter, while on the other hand they are whining about the fact that their beloved game is having one foot in the grave.

I neither understand why people sit on their asses with absolutely zero intention doing something themselves like a tourney for example,
and then have the guts to give such negative critism to someone who at least tries to make things happen in this little forum.

I too disapprove the selection based on "superiority", or atleast "your (plural) view of superiority". If this is not the case, it may be wise to publish the selection or exclusion criteria. Not doing so obviously is for many here like getting a kick in the shins and I understand where their feeling of not being treated just comes from.

Yeah and now it feels like a lot of guys kick me a lot of times in my nuts.

I totally copied the concept (since I found it interesting) from Ahmed's 1st version of this.
Can't really remember he got this much bad reactions, however..
I thought about it for weeks, and really looked closely everytime I played in various servers and then I wrote down 8 names
who I found to be the most skilled in as many ways as possible.
After that, to make sure I wasn't completely off, I asked, without giving my own list,
as Thor said, a bunch of really experienced active players who they thought were the best. And all the lists included kinda the same names.
I made the final decision, and added the last time's winner to it.

I wanted to stick to eight players since you all can see we are already in the end of November so I just want this to get done in time.
To make a stable revival of the contest.

I'm really open for (I don't know who said it) adding eight more players that could be
selected by everyone together, through nominations.
But I'm afraid this would make the tournament cross the deadline and there for I'm pretty
sceptical to it this year. Though I'm very open, as I said, to do like this in for example
next year's version of this tournament.

Yeah.. probably forgot something now.. duh.

You're pathetic.

Very mature post.
Whether it was mature or not is irrelevant, it is still true.

Whether it was mature or not is irrelevant, it is still true.

It has nothing to do with the truth. It's only your stupid opinion, after SorZ argued you well about the selection of the players in this tournament. If you can't stand it, get out of the kitchen.

Excuse me, he didn't argue anything, and certainly not well, he only reinforced my suspicions about this contest and the ideas and actions behind it.

Seriously? People fighting over some dumb list of people who can enter a tournament? *sigh* I can host a classic tournament which anyone can join if it is such a big deal to you people.

Just be sure to name the contest accordingly. Hint: don't follow the example set in the naming of this contest.

Yeah, name it something like Queen of Classic. And don't forget to give Sak some lives in handicap.

Sorz: GL, I think it's a nice initiative!

The rest of us: Let's move on. Titles like "Cardinal of classic", "Emperor of classic", "Overlord of classic" etc is still available  ;)

PS! When things turned out this way though, regarding the amount of attention this tournament has received already, it's almost too bad it's not open =). Classic marketing trick. Make something appear exclusive, and it triggers peoples interest. Remind me to contact you when I'm promoting my new album!

Hmm, in a way I understand why SorZ would do this on invite-only. Most tournaments turn inactive because people just subscribe and then don't play the games they're supposed to, which causes a lot of troubles for the organiser.

In this point of view I think it's a good idea to do invites-only, however people that are active (+decent players) and that want to join could be invited too, in my oppinion. For example Flesk. Yet it's not my decision and imo Sorz should be able to organise his event in the way he thinks it's best, no?

I do accept the invitation, even though I know I stand no chance in duels against about 75% of the players invited, will be challenging!

Tafka vs Fry

I won 2-1

Was a fun start to tournament. I don't remember 2nd game result, but first and third were both quite close.

I
II
III

First round was Tafka's choice and second was FreY's map.
FreY managed to turn around and win the first round with a nice napalm in the end.
Second round was also tight but Tafka showed himself stronger in the end.
Tafka opened really strong in the last game and were leading with something like 3-4 lives when we got close to the end,
but FreY showed off some good defense and managed to get Tafka down to around 60% in his last life.
However Tafka was worth the victory in 3rd. Nice duel to watch, enjoyed.

We are still waiting for Luffy and Iliera to play.

Meanwhile, Tafka faced Legend.

Tafka won Legend's choice: Complex. 0-out
Legend won Tafka's choice: Jukke. 0-out
Tafka won LFr: Also 0-out

Offensive and cool games. Tafka advances!

Iliera proceed on a walkover, unfortunaly Luffy seem too inactive to participate here and the
show must go on. Iliera vs. Lodur, gogo!

Goodie. The best thing would've been the throw in a substitute for Luffy as was mentioned
to me earlier. But I think we are running out of time here, so we gotta make this as quick
as possible. Good gaming guys, I'm sure you two can arrange a time to duel pretty
soon.

I forfeit. I dont have the patience or the nerves to face a guy like iliera. After chasing him 3 lives down I decided to ban him from my server and wont unban him unless a cw.  Good luck with him Tafka I hope you win.

Iliera won me yet again, 2-1 for him.
Those very really fun games. Both played with pretty aggressive style mostly, was just my fail in two last lives that caused me this loss, Iliera did very well though, really deserves it this time (wasn't that much into the loss in Overlord tourny), but this was good really.

I really think people are being sometimes too harsh to Iliera. His only mistake is that he is so good. A lot of people & clans camp - few Emps camp a lot, some aC's can get really defensive time to time. Iliera isn't always defensive and he attacks time to time, the only difference is that when he gets defensive and when some of the above mentioned get defensive, he is just a lot better.

He has mostly dropped the shitty attitude as well lately. Before he was all like "I am good, I am best, I ROCK" etc, which was pretty annoying and didn't really earn him any respect, but now that he can behave better as well it's mostly a pleasure to play with him.

Well done, #1 player.

Btw, I recorded all 3 games and there will be an epic montage coming out of all the kills made from both of us during the games! Coming soon!
