Hi,

The main repository has been moved to GitHub:

The SourceForge trackers were disabled. The Git repository will also be disabled in a while to not confuse other people where to find the most recent source.

The openlierox-distrib repository (with all the distribution scripts) has been moved here:

What this means:

For users, it will make the bug reporting a bit different. Most people will probably agree that the GitHub issue tracker is much nicer to use. Though, right now, it means that you need a GitHub account. But we are working on possible solutions so that you can also report without a GitHub account. Otherwise, no real (direct) change for you.

For developers, it means to just change the Git origin URL in your local Git copy. And you can take advantage of all the nice GitHub Git features. And it will make a few other things easier in the future.

For other people interested in the source, it has the biggest impact: The project is on GitHub now! (People who like working on Open Source projects probably are familiar with what this means already.) Basically, it means that contributing to the source code is trivial now. It's just one click away.

Some further discussion about this can be read in the mailing list. After all, if you don't care about contributing to the source code, it doesn't really mean too much for you right now.

No, not the issue tracker. (GitHub issues tracker is a bit more modern and integrates a bit better into the rest but also lacks a few features which SF had.)

GitHub itself was the main reason. GitHub makes it trivial for anybody to work on the project. GitHub makes it trivial for anyone to commit any patches to us. I really mean trivial. It cannot be easier and more obvious and straightforward. That is the core feature of GitHub.

Also, GitHub offers a lot of nice Git features. You have a nice network view which is not only about all the branches but also about all the forks with all the branches. GitHub makes merging of other pull requests trivial. GitHub allows you to comment on specific commits or parts of a commit or files or parts of files or pull requests or branches or forks. Also, GitHub is fast. And GitHub has a nice and very simple REST API so we can easily script certain things (for example automatic bug reporting for crash reports). And you can even edit files online. And not only members of the project can do that, everybody can do that (non-member edits will automatically be converted into pull requests). And there is more...

All this makes it just much nicer to work on the project and for other people to make small suggestions on the code or small patches (really, it is trivial). For any Open Source developer, GitHub is currently the best and nicest possible way to work together with other people.

And even if nobody really will use that, there is also not really any disadvantage and it also doesn't really matter where the code is. Also, GitHub's webinterface to the code itself is way nicer than the Git webinterface of SF. After all, that is what GitHub is all centered around.
