Topic: Looking for a dedicated server administrator (Read 4935 times)

We are looking for people within the community that would take care of our new dedicated server (it's the one currently running the Xmas settings).

The administration involves:
* Configuring presets that will be played on the server
* Fine-tuning the settings so that as many players as possible are satisfied
* Creating a ranking system including storing your personal gaming statistics to your LXA account (this could possibly be further extended to a more complex clan base later if there's enough demand for it)
* Checking server logs from time to time and try to find possible hacks
* Checking that the server is running correctly (for example has not crashed)
* Moderating the LXA Dedicated Server board here at LXA (don't look for it now, it has not yet been created)

What will you get:
* Administration power over the official OpenLieroX/LXA dedicated server
* Moderation power here at LXA for the corresponding board
* Access to internal LXA systems that will be needed for co-operation with the server
* A good feeling

Because the server is a professional-level high-performance one, therefore may be more instances (2-3) of the dedicated server running - for example more servers with different settings for different groups - but that will be already up to you. Future extensions are possible (mumble server, teamspeak server, ...).
The server is running a Debian Linux and the administration is done via ssh (remote command line), therefore at least Linux basics are necessary. The scripts controlling the ded server are written in Python - however, the configuration settings is pretty straightforward and no Python knowledge is necessary.

Anyone up for doing a little for the community?

PS: there can be an administration team, not necessarily just one person

If no one responds to this, in a couple of weeks I am getting a laptop which I am going to format and throw ubuntu on, I might be able to do it.

My question is, would you rather have the server centralized in Europe? Because NA players might be to laggy for the larger percentage of the gaming community from LX.

We're running a 20mbps connection.

There's maybe a little misunderstanding here: we already have the server - Virtual Private Server (VPS) to be exact - with Debian Lenny, 4 GB RAM, a strong CPU, 100 MBit net, connected directly to backbone network, located in central Europe. We just need an administrator to take care of the above mentioned things

My appologies. I could do that if you like. I'm on here every day. I have the most hours online, and I have no life. Although the idea of a team is good.

That was me who wrote that Python scripts for ded server (the most part at least), so if you'll find any bugs don't hesitate to contact me, you all know my MSN (at least Asrack).

Hey, I've got a brilliant idea! Let's start OLX client in X virtual framebuffer server, and record every match with desktop recorder program, and post it to Youtube!

Well, it will eat CPU even if limited to 10 FPS. Better to do it on some other host (someone donate another host to us, gimme gimme

)
And make another ded server for clanwars explicitly, you join and type "!cw [Clan1] [Clan2]" and it will kick everyone without tags. And record everything of course, and post Youtube link.

Shit, 24/7 recording posted to youtube. I wonder if that's even allowed!

I could hop on a moderation team if nobody else can, ahmed and asrack have been inactive for periods of time before. I have the necessary skills, but not extreme devotion to LX .

Well, I've assembled simple shell script for recording OLX videos without requiring videocard, but it still does not upload to youtube. Maybe I'll get it finished next week.

I've finished the script (tho I should add few tweaks to it), it uploads videos to http://www.youtube.com/user/OpenLieroXVideoBot01 , there are few test uploads there to check the quality.
I'll install it on our ded server when I'll have some time.

Hey I've set up real life video recording, go play some games at "Games nonstop + voting" server and watch your performance at http://www.youtube.com/user/OpenLieroXVideoBot01 (it will got converted by youtube, it takes approx 10 minutes to get high quality)
I've set FPS to 10 so it won't eat too much CPU, I think I can increase it because there's no visible performance hit.

Someone plz tell me how to make that youtube page show exactly 640x480, and don't shrink video vertically.
