Movies!!!
« on: May 19, 2009, 06:30:34 pm »
Heya! I decided to make a topic where we can discuss the movies we seen and wanna see, and maybe give tips about new ones and give bad or good critism.

I start I reasonly saw the movie "The Ruins", based on the book. Which Stephen King thought it be the most populare horror of the year.

I didn't like it, it was entertaining and such, but reading the books gives so much more. So if your not a bookreader perhaps u would enjoy it.

I know alot about movies and actorst( I used to at least) So if anything comes in mind ask me:)

I'm a big Horror movie fan and i adore those psychological ones, so the last thing i saw was Eden Lake

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6j3K4MmOKs" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6j3K4MmOKs</a>

I give a 8/10, a worth watching movie. Usualy, when watching these movies you always guess what happens in the end, so the ending of this one really came as a surprise to me, because i'm watched endless numbers of horror movies and it's really easy to guess what will happen next, and you get how to expect them, i give a thumbs up to this one. Good quality stuff.

Horror is maybe my least favorite genre, especially when it comes to newer ones, and the one Cizin mentioned seems like quite an ordinary new horror movie to me. So I'm not really interested to see that one. But I do like some older horror, like Hammer horror, movies like The Exorcist, and of course the good old slashers. And classics like Dracula and Frankenstein. :P

My two personal favorite types of movies are Hong Kong action and Westerns, especially Spaghetti Westerns. I have quite a large collection of Hong Kong action, but I'm really only getting started with the Westerns. A lot of the good old Westerns, besides the absolute classics, seem to be quite difficult to find, especially in Finland. =/

I last saw High Plains Drifter by Clint Eastwood, and I think it's easily his best Western after the Dollars trilogy. It has a very classic Western setting, with a stranger coming to town and hired to protect the town from some felons. But it also has some unusual (for a Western) elements of supernaturality in it. Go watch it! Trailer here:
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbzRp25nZGg" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbzRp25nZGg</a>

I'm also currently watching Sonny Chiba's Street Fighter trilogy which is awesome also. I've now seen the first two and I'll probably watch the third tomorrow, then I'll maybe come over here to say how I liked it. A poor English trailer for the first movie here:
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=537MurkV2uU" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=537MurkV2uU</a>

Good topic by the way, at least if we get some real discussion here too. I would be interested in knowing if anyone else likes these types of movies. :)

I wouldn't put Eden Lake directly in the horror genre, it has much more in common with films like Lord of Flies and Saw 1 than the regular jumpscare horrors that keep popping up.

I'm incredibly fond of Niel Marshalls horror films, Dogsoldier and The Descent. Both manages to create a great atmosphere with a constant sense of doom.

Dogsoldier is one out of few horrorfilms, starring mythical beings, in which I actually rooted for the soldiers instead of the werewolfes. The characters are realistic in most situations and I actually cared for them. The film is scary despite relying on a tired concept and it contains a health dosage of gore and humour. The "-Where's spoon? -There is no spoon!" lines are anything but forgettable!

As for the Descent, well just watch it. You'll most likely be surprised!

Then again, what am I doing awake at this hour, sheeez.

If you want proper psychological horror that actually creeped me out there is a favourite for me

It's called R-Point

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0417072/

It actually creeped me out, it's not a hollywood movie, and that's what seems to make it so good, there never is that "Scare" type of stuff,
It's about a group of soldiers going on a rescue mission when they receive a radio transmission from a missing platoon presumed dead, and when they arrive, that's where the fun happens, it really flipped my world upside down.

Well I might just give that a shot then, but you can't seriously think its anything near The good, the bad, and the ugly can you?

Actually, I think it's about as good as The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. By far the only thing High Plains Drifter lacks compared to GBU is a good shootout in the end, but the overall atmosphere throughout the film is just as great if not better. I have always thought that GBU is a little too 'big' compared to the first two Dollars films. There are three main characters instead of one or two, and the plot is also a little too long and complicated.

But High Plains Drifter is not nearly as good as For a Few Dollars More, which is easily the best (Spaghetti) Western ever!

If thats the case its to long etc, how come I watched the entire thing alone from my moms bed when I was like 5-7 and I was the only one not sleeping.

It got sucha  superior theme and music sounds than all the other films, even metallica use the theme as a theme before they go on playing.

I dont disagree the other 2 dollar trilogys are bad, but that movie is simple the best.

I'm about to see Changeling tonight, the director is Clint eastwood and Angelina jolie got good reviews from her preformance in it, and I am thrilled to see it.

I saw the movie AntiChrist by the danish director Lars Von Trier, and at the movies I was disgust and terryfied, but these ast 2 days I've been thinking alot on it.

And I think its a movie you earn to see more than once, it got hidden messages. It got a beutieful prolog with slow-motion and a great opera music. And I dont reccomend sensitive viewers to watch it, also I think the minorty here is to young to see it.

But I think that if a movie can get to you as much that you feel sick and horrified, I think it's really something special.

My dad's a fan of Trier, we got almost all of his movies, heh. Haven't watched them and, well, don't think I will.

A while back I watched the vengeance trilogy (Lady Vengeance, Oldboy and Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance) by Chan-wook Park. They were all very, very good movies about vengeance, without the usual hollywood stuff.
Acting was great, as were the plot and music. I just randomly decided to watch Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, it was so good that I just had to watch Lady and Oldboy right after it. That's not the "correct" order to watch them but it doesn't really matter as there are no same characters or plot-continuity between the movies.
Again, very good movies in my opinion.

The dacinvi code is better than angels and demons, but angels and demons are also pretty exiting.
I think angels and demons got pretty more action than davinci, but i think it was worth watching.
