Microsoft Lets Xbox Live Users Build And Sell Their Own Games

If it passes a peer review, the creator will receive up to 70% of the total revenue generated by the game.

The LieroX team should totally get in on this early!!!!! Almost everyone I know loves this game, except people who don't like computer games or people who only play first person shooters. LieroX on Xbox, LieroXbox, XboXLieroX... the possibilities. The game could be either free (which I prefer) or maybe 50 cents or something cheap like that just to make a little money to pay the programming team to make it work for xbox, fix remaining bugs, keep adding new features, and maybe get a T1 to run some dedicated servers. If any money is made some should go to Joosa Riekkinen, Jason Boettcher, or others I don't know about who played large roles in early development, in addition to those doing a lot of work on the programming right now.

The article says XNA Game Studio is the program people have to use to make games for Xbox. Some of the serious lierox programmers should look into how much work it would take to get lierox to play on there. I am sure there is a wide community or market out there that would love to play this game, and if it got in there early, would probably easily outcompete most of the fan made games that are going to be on there.

Xbox & Microsoft can go to hell :)

As far as I know, XNA is C# + DirectX only. In that case, it's not really possible.

Hehe, no comment on that, but most people probably know my opinion about MS. :)

Though, they are a bit desperate nowadays, have problems everywhere. I feel almost already sorry for their troubles. And Xbox is only one of them.

But, if there is any easy way to port OLX, some dev owns a Xbox and is interesting in it, go ahead.

Xbox is not a problem... It's a really solid system with some great games, probably the best online support.. Just because some large greedy company you hate makes it doesn't necessarily mean it's bad :D

Sony is way worse than Microsoft.... rootkits in their software?

What I meant was, MS has not the expected success with Xbox. Both Sony and Nintendos have more success with their consoles than MS.

Interesting. In Germany it's the oposite. :) Though Wii is also on top here. (That is from some statistics over the last year until beginning of 2008.)

360 has been out more then a year before PS3 is out.
The Playstation 2 sold more then Xbox in both their lifetimes.
And pretty soon..without a couple years...The PS3 will outsell 360.

yeah ok i hate microsoft and any capitalist corporation anyway, but here's the thing, most of us are living in capitalist countries and there is no big socialist country with state enterprises making video game consoles, besides why hold it against most video game players who are kids that aren't politicized into the whole open source vs. microborg war that all us know the open source is the good guy on...

with the difference in programming languages, it is probably still possible to make the game for the other one but it will just mean much more work.

if making money is an incentive for someone to do the work to make it happen, this is what went through my mind when i saw the article: if we get 30k downloads of new lierox beta in a year for a game that you only hear about if you are purposefully looking up free or classic games, putting it on some list for a console to download that will be accessible for kids with 50 cents or a dollar of their parents money to buy, where it is competing against only a couple other games which include a sidescroller, a puzzle game, and a dodgeball game, I could see it capturing a lot of a market, and maybe supporting the programmer who ports it for a while.

MissingNo.

Xbox is fail. It should be put on the Wii and have the Wiimote functions along with it for aiming and whatnot.

albert

"Much more work" is a bit optimistic. You would have to recode the whole game, as if you would start from zero. And the whole work only for Xbox because you don't get any further advantage.

Btw., this is also one of the strategies of MS, which I realy don't like: Try to force devs to use their own language/system (C# + XNA + DirectX). Once a dev felt into this trap, he is bond on MS in a lot of senses. First, he will not be able to run this game on a non MS system (or only with huge drawbacks). Then, he has to use their tools (XNA). That also means, that his developers tools are bounded on MS, for example the IDE also works on Windows only. Etc etc.

But let's stay at the topic, OLX for Xbox.

The only sensefull way is to use the SDL port for Xbox and just keep the codebase with some slightly modifications. But as far as I know, MS don't allow you to run any indivual software, you would first have to get OLX certificated by MS and I think you have to pay for that. Correct me if I am wrong. If there are easy ways for porting, then let's go ahead.

XNA is in any case not an option.

you could shoot for a WiiWare title, I would have an Xbox right now if I didn't hate it so much.  PS3 ftw!!!

Hey guys, there's already a topic for discussing opinions about xbox/ps3/wii, so please keep on topic. Thanks.

Hi, I think that lierox should not be on the Xbox 360. The PS3 > any console because of it's power but consols are a waste of money when you have a pc and can play lx for free. Look haze I stayed on topic now you don't have to spam me with pms and delete my posts!
Learning about chemistry all day is more fun than anything... sorry LieroX.

That's all well and good, but a regular desktop PC wouldn't be good for playing LX when you're on the road like some game consoles, namely DS and PSP. Some people have those and not a laptop, and buying a laptop just to play one game is pointless. :)
And, the PS3, as of now, is not better than the 360 or the Wii. It might be in the near future when it's potential is reached, but that has not happened yet. It might look better, but looks are worthless when there are very few games and horrible gameplay.

Other than that, Albert has already said how it would work, or, mind you, not work all that well on an Xbox. There's really no reason to carry on unless another dev can prove Albert wrong or something along those lines.

Not many people have tv's in there cars to play there systems. Handhelds and LX make more sense to me though :).

How much would you have to pay to get that step done? how much would it cost in additional work before a payoff could be got to make up for the cost?

you could shoot for a WiiWare title

anyone know about feasibility/cost on this one?
